3 Accelerators to Reduce Churn & Keep Members Longer
If you have an established membership and you're looking to scale, improving retention should be your priority. That starts with understanding the Retention Accelerator Framework.
This isn’t a cookie-cutter strategy. Your membership is unique. But these three accelerators—Results, Recognition, and Relationships—are the keys to keeping members longer and reducing churn.
Results: Your Most Powerful Retention Lever
If members aren’t getting results, they’re going to leave. Period.
And it’s not enough to give them access to Q&A calls, transcripts, training videos, or workbooks. If they’re not making progress, they won’t stay.
To get members better results, ask:
What’s the clear progress path in my membership?
Where is the friction that keeps members from taking action?
How can I remove that friction to speed up their progress?
This may include:
Creating guides and FAQs for every training
Sharing templates (use AI to help with this)
Improving your teaching methods
Adding Q&A or team support to clarify next steps
Also ask, What’s their first quick win? Early retention depends on helping members see progress fast, especially in the first 30–90 days. Your onboarding needs to set that momentum.
If your program delivers transformation, your retention numbers will show it.
Recognition: Make Members Feel Seen
As your membership grows, it gets harder to know everyone personally, but members still want to feel seen and valued.
Here’s how to do it at scale:
Personalize communication: Use members' names on live calls, emails, and inside your community.
Send welcome videos: Tools like Bonjoro let you or your team send personalized welcome videos.
Spotlight contributions: Publicly thank members for supporting others, sharing progress, or engaging in the group.
Tailor your guidance: Use PDFs, quizzes, or assessments to help people start in the right place depending on their experience level.
Ask yourself: Where in my journey can I add personalization or praise?
When you tailor content and highlight progress, you reinforce their identity as a valued part of your program.
Relationships: The Glue That Holds It All Together
Community isn't just a feel-good bonus. It’s a strategic driver of retention.
People need to feel connected not only to you, but also to your team and to each other.
Here’s how to create those connection points:
Share more of yourself (authentic, not transparent)
Involve your team inside the community
Encourage peer-to-peer support through member stories, callouts, or live calls
Offer in-person meetups, virtual gatherings, or dedicated discussion threads
Ask yourself: Where can I add new connection points?
Relationships amplify recognition and support results. When members feel like they belong, they’re more likely to stay, grow, and refer others.
