Use This Old School Tech to Increase Retention
Most membership businesses are looking for new technology to get members to pay attention.
But sometimes old technology can stand out more.
That is what Janice Anderson does inside her membership.
She uses voice broadcast technology to send short recorded phone calls to her members. She has used this strategy in her business since 2012.
And it helps her create more connection at scale.
What Is Voice Broadcast Technology?
Voice broadcast technology lets you record one message and send it to many people at once.
The phone can ring like a normal call. You can also send the message straight to voicemail.
Janice keeps her calls short and informal.
She might record a message from her garage or while she is out on a walk. The message sounds personal because it sounds like her.
Her members know the call is recorded. But they still feel like she is talking directly to them.
Why This Works So Well
Email is easy to miss.
Text messages are easy to ignore.
A phone call feels different.
Most people do not get many phone calls they actually want to answer. So when a member sees Janice calling, it gets their attention.
Janice also uses her real phone number as the caller ID.
If someone misses the call, they often think, “Janice called me.”
That makes the message feel personal before they even hear it.
How She Uses Voice Broadcasts
Janice uses these calls in a few simple ways.
Event Reminders
She sends reminders about upcoming classes inside her membership.
She does more than share the time.
She teases the topic and reminds members why they should show up.
That helps drive live attendance.
Janice shared that more than 50% of the people in her community show up live.
Inspiration
She also sends quick messages when she feels inspired.
These may come from her garage or while she is on a walk.
She uses them to encourage members or reinforce something many of them are struggling with.
The Bigger Retention Lesson
The real power is not the technology.
It is the connection.
Janice said her members often thank her for taking the time to call them.
They feel seen.
They feel remembered.
And they feel connected to her.
That matters as a membership grows.
She cannot personally call every member. But this gives her a way to add a personal touch without talking to each person one by one.
She is also intentional about using her own voice.
Her team does not send these messages.
She does.
Her members joined because they wanted some level of connection with her. This helps her stay present even as the membership grows.
A Simple Way to Stand Out
Sometimes the thing that makes your business remarkable is not the newest tool.
It is using something other people have stopped using.
A simple phone call can cut through the noise.
And when that call helps members feel seen, connected, and remembered, it can support stronger engagement inside your membership.
